We are honored to announce that today on the blog we are featuring JEANIENE FROST!! Months ago when I got the email from her assistant that today we would be featuring her on the blog I was in the front yard. Jumping up and down and dancing a jig in the driveway got me a few odd stares, but I didn’t care LOL. Still feeling that happy excitement, I am elated to post this Q&A and know that all of our followers will enjoy hearing from Ms. Frost and reading some interesting info about her and her work. Oh, and you don’t want to miss out on the awesome giveaway!
Book one in the Night Prince series.

2. Since some of ONCE BURNED takes place at Vlad’s castle in Romania- how much research did you do on his homeland?
J.F. Not nearly as much as I wanted to! I would have loved to travel to Romania and visit the Royal Court, Castle Poenari, and other famous attractions, but time/money/deadlines made that impossible. So I did my research online through various resources like travel sites, official Romania sites, amateur YouTube videos, maps, etc. I’m sure I missed some details by not visiting Romania personally, but if I only wrote about places I’d personally been to, my books would be set in a very narrow geography.
3. "Premature inflamulation," he replied. "Happens sometimes. Very embarrassing, I don't like to talk about it" is by far my favorite line in a book ever- Do you laugh out loud at some of your writing or want to go back and add/change things thinking other people just might not get it?
J.F. I’ve been known to giggle at my keyboard while writing. My husband now knows to ignore such things. I got a kick out writing that line, and it wasn’t something I’d planned on. Most of the dialog in my books is written organically, so to quote Charlaine Harris, I don’t sit at my keyboard and say, “All right, I’m going to be HILARIOUS today.” There are times when some readers don’t “get” the jokes in my books, but humor is subjective so that doesn’t bother me. There’s only so much I can stress about.
4. Through the editing process, has there ever been a scene that you absolutely stood firm on and refused to delete because you felt so strongly about it?
J.F. Fortunately, I have a great editor, so she rarely asks me to delete a scene unless there’s a good reason for it to go (it slows down pacing, it’s nonsensical, repetitive, etc). But speaking of humor and standing firm, in Destined for an Early Grave, my editor did have a “Are you sure you want to do that?” note where my ultra-formal-speaking character, Mencheres, replies to my heroine with, “The sh*t’s gonna splatter, start buggin’, yo” in response to her telling him to talk like he lives in the twenty-first century. My editor was concerned that it might have been too extreme and therefore not funny. I liked it and thought it was something my character would say - Mencheres has hidden depths, as hopefully his book Eternal Kiss of Darkness showed - so I kept it in. Most readers found it funny, though I’m sure some scratched their heads at it.
5. We have heard you like lots of book shelves. Did you ever get a room in your house fixed with book shelves from ceiling to floor the way you wanted?
J.F. Not floor to ceiling (you should’ve seen the crazy high quote I got from a carpenter for that!) but I do have shelves all over one wall in my office, and more standing shelves downstairs in another room. And yet I still have books on the floor. I should cull my book collection, but I love them so much. To parrot Gollum from The Lord of the Rings, they’re my precious.
6. In honor of your grandmother you decided to use the name Kathleen in your work. Have you used any other names (or characteristics) for characters that were special to your heart?
J.F. In Eternal Kiss of Darkness, my heroine’s little sister has Cystic Fibrosis. That was inspired by my very good friend, Chrissy, who died of CF when she was twenty-two. In Eternal Kiss, there’s a happy ending for my heroine’s sister, who is saved from dying of her disease by vampire blood. I wish there had been something to save my friend back then, and all the people who have/had CF.
Also, in a less sentimental fashion, the villain of Destined for an Early Grave was partially inspired by domestic violence abusers. A long time ago, a relative of mine was in an abusive relationship. There were times when we were afraid that he would kill her. She eventually left him, but I’ll never forget those nights where I’d repeatedly pray that nothing horrible would happen to her. Gregor, my villain in Destined, is a textbook example of an abuser, minus the vampiric abilities, of course. Abusers aren’t awful all of the time. They usually start out as quite charming, and then they slowly peel away the support network of family, friends, loved ones, and most importantly, self-esteem from the target of their abuse. Gregor attempted to do that to my heroine, and (spoiler warning!) in the end, she blew his head off. I had a lot of grim satisfaction writing that scene.
7. How did you come to love roaming around through cemeteries?
J.F. I can’t point to any one incident. I just think they’re pretty. Older or historical cemeteries are similar to outdoor parks, in my opinion.
8. Is there any character that hasn’t been changed in some form (like Cooper *hint hint*) that you would like to alter, or has there ever been a character in the past that you didn’t want to change or felt they weren’t ready for a change but the story in your head forced it to happen?
J.F. Actually, when I started writing One Foot in the Grave, I had no intentions of turning Dave into a ghoul. When I wrote the scene where he died, I thought he was dead dead. It was only while I was writing the end of One Foot where Bones was talking to Cat about Dave’s death that I realized he could be raised as a ghoul. Then I realized that Cat would absolutely try for it to save her friend. So Dave was an accidental ghoul, you could say J.
9. You have said Ian won’t be getting his own book any time soon but will he be showing up in upcoming books for us?
J.F. I expect Ian to be in the next couple Cat and Bones books, but as I haven’t written them yet, I can’t swear to it. I do hope that Ian grows up enough to get his own story one day. I know his history and why he is the way he is, and I’d like to share it with readers. We’ll see!
10. Vlad is without a doubt a character everyone is in love with, so for him to have his own series, it is extremely exciting. Did you transfer any of the “real” Dracula’s traits into your Vlad?
J.F. The “real” Dracula, yes, by which I mean the historical version of Vlad the Impaler. Not Bram Stoker’s version of Dracula (no offense meant to The Great One, of course). When I researched Vlad, I found it interesting that there were different historical accounts of him. One paints him as the cruel tyrant we’re all so familiar with, and many of those accounts were based from early German writings. The Russian and Romanian accounts of Vlad were very different, showing him as no crueler than other leaders of his era and hailing him as a staunch defender of his country against repeated invasion attempts. Vlad was even credited with being one of the few rulers who promoted peasants and “commoners” into positions of power instead of rich nobles, which was shocking for his day. Many Romanians still consider Vlad to be a national hero. That ruthless-with-a-reason version of Vlad is the one I drew the most from for his character, but with my own twists, of course.
11. Does your husband read your books? While you are writing the story or once it is completed?
J.F. My husband isn’t a big reader. Instead, he exercises for enjoyment – which I cannot understand, lol. He has read some of the books, but I told him beforehand that I never wanted to hear his opinion because he can’t win. If he’d say that he liked a book, I’d think he was just being kind. If he’d say that he didn’t like a book, he’d sleep on the couch for a week! ;-). But in all seriousness, he is incredibly supportive, and he has to hear everything three times: When I complain to him about something that isn’t working with a character/plot point, then when I call my author friend Melissa to talk about the same thing, and then when I call my friend Ilona to talk about the same thing.
12. The cover for ONCE BURNED is completely different than any of your previous book covers. Did you have any input toward this exceptionally yummy cover and are you “for” not having Leila on the front, letting Vlad take all our attention (like he wouldn’t anyway, I can hardly take my eyes off him)? J.F. When I talked to my editor about the cover, we agreed that we wanted only Vlad on it so readers could tell from one glance that it wasn’t a Night Huntress novel (which only features my heroine on the cover) and that it also wasn’t a Night Huntress World novel (which only features couples on the cover). That’s whyall the covers for the Night Prince series will feature Vlad on the front and then a couple on the stepback (inside cover image).
I also had several specific requests that probably made my art director reach for a flask: I wanted the model for Vlad to have that stubbled/shadowed look on his jaw, to have scars on his chest, to have long dark hair, and to have a really cut since Vlad’sbuild is described more like Michael Fassbender’sversus, say, Gerard Butler’s. I think they came through on all the above. While the model isn’t quite how I picture Vlad – and yes, readers will find out in Once Burned that Vlad has chest hair, too, which the model doesn’t - I’m thrilled with how the cover turned out.

She’s a mortal with dark powers…
After a tragic accident scarred her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: terrifying powers that let her channel electricity and learn a person’s darkest secrets through a single touch. Leila is doomed to a life of solitude…until creatures of the night kidnap her, forcing her to reach out with a telepathic distress call to the world’s most infamous vampire…
He’s the Prince of Night…
Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest vampire legend of all—but whatever you do, don’t call him Dracula. Vlad’s ability to control fire makes him one of the most feared vampires in existence, but his enemies have found a new weapon against him – a beautiful mortal with powers to match his own. When Vlad and Leila meet, however, passion ignites between them, threatening to consume them both. It will take everything that they are to stop an enemy intent on bringing them down in flames.

1. At the RT Convention in Chicago you talked a little about your ferrets. Would you tell our followers about them and how this was incorporated into your books?
J.F. About a decade ago, I had several ferrets. They’re wonderful pets but very prone to cancer and other illnesses because of inbreeding. Anyway, a ferret’s eyes will glow green if you shine light on them in the dark. When I started writing my debut novel, I incorporated that glowing green eye effect for my vampires, only I made it something that a vampire controlled at will.2. Master of Shadows- Lynn Viehl (novella)
Will Scarlet, right-hand man to Darkyn leader Robin of Locksley, has been charged with an impossible task: He must regain control of his lord’s stronghold, which has been invaded by vicious Darkyn renegades, without harming any captives or attracting the attention of the Brethren, the Kyn’s mortal enemies. Things only get worse when Will learns that Reese Carmichael, the mortal woman he loves, is one of the hostages. Reese was sent by her father, a former Brethren inquisitor, to infiltrate Rosethorn, retrieve an ancient vial containing the cause of a medieval plague, and prevent Armageddon from being accidentally unleashed upon the mortal world. Seducing and falling in love with Will Scarlet was never part of the plan, but Reese has no choice other than to use him and the siege of Rosethorn to complete her mission. If she does, she knows he will never forgive her—but if she doesn’t, millions of innocent lives will be lost. As Kyn allies Jayr, Byrne, and Lucan arrive to provide Will with reinforcements, Reese’s true identity and motives are revealed. Torn between love and loyalty, Will and Reese uncover one last secret from the past that may help them win the final battle…if it doesn’t destroy them first
This novella takes place during Stay the Night. Will is given the task to rescue the stronghold. Reese is sent on a mission from her father to get something from Will. Reese loves Will, and she hates lying to him. Also we meet Sylas and his wife who have some impressive and dangerous talents of their own. This was a good story. The only thing I don't like is that the series is over and I feel the author could have told more especially with John and Luisa.

Embrace Me At Dawn- Shayla Black
No man will ever define her again.
Anka MacTavish lost everything when Mathias D’Arc captured her, shattered her bond with her mate, and broke both her body and spirit. Determined to heal her bleeding soul, she joins the Doomsday Brethren’s fight to vanquish the evil wizard and seize her revenge. But becoming a magical warrior will require close contact with her former mate, the love who’s never left her heart, Lucan. And she’ll have to explain why she left him and fled to the arms of another lover…
No woman can ever take her place.
Lucan’s world crumbled when Anka escaped Mathias and sought protection from his long-time rival, Shock. Now she has returned, and Lucan must train her to confront a new and terrible danger that threatens magickind. With every punch, blow, and parry, Lucan discovers that Anka isn’t the demure wife he once knew, and his reawakening desire for this woman is a need he can’t control. He vows to do whatever it takes to reclaim her heart and make her his once more. But when the Doomsday Brethren are forced to make an unlikely alliance, it will test Anka’s resolve like never before. To survive, she and Lucan must rely on one another, face their deepest fears…and expose the dark secrets that threaten to destroy everything, including their love.
We met Lucan and Anka in the first book. They were the only mated couple and had been for 100 yrs. Anka was very demure and Lucan treated this characteristic with respect.. The war wasn't well known and Lucan didn't feel he had to worry about his mate until Mathias kidnapped and raped her. The only thing that saved her was her childhood friend, Shock, who had also called to her to be his mate. Once a man has called to a woman and she doesn't except him, that man becomes unable to be with another woman sexually. Anka chose Lucan, but once her mate bond was broken it took away all her memories of her mate. All she had was an empty feeling, so she ran to the only man she remembered which was Shock. Shock is suppose to be a double agent for the Doomsday Brethren working only with Mathrias to aid the brethren. But he's so good at it no one really knows where he stands except when it comes to Anka. He would do anything for her. In this magic world you have to have sex to generate energy . So when Anka got away from Mathrias, Shock had sex with her to heal her and once she got her memories back she was too ashamed to go back to her real mate, thinking she was now too damaged and different for him to love. When Lucan's mate bond was broken he went mad and the only person that could heal him was Anka. He nearly died until she healed him. But he allowed her to walk away. Now Anka is torn between two men she loves.. One is her true Mate the other is her savior

Lissa Matthews has come to chat with us today and to give us some of her thoughts on the ups and downs of writing that next book. Lissa has not been feeling well lately, so we appreciate her taking the time to be with us and share some frustrations we have all had as readers.
Worth Waiting For
I'm slow. Really slow. At the writing gig. It's hard work. I used to crank out stories in no time. Not anymore. Now, it seems to take FOREVER for a book to get from my head to my fingers to the publisher to the reader. It's frustrating for readers, no doubt. It's frustrating for me, too, make no mistake about that. I have more ideas in my head than brain cells or so it seems.
I can't write until the characters start talking. Sometimes they talk only a little, one line. Sometimes they talk a lot, won't shut up until I have pages of words in the form of notes, synopsis, or book itself. There are multiple books I need to be writing on, multiple books I want to be writing on, and multiple books I want to run the hell away from. And there are multiple books readers are waiting on. Two such books are follow ups to Arctic Shift, my werebear shifter book, and The Demon is an Angel, my sex-demon/sex-angel book.
I am primarily a contemporary author, but with these two books, I tried something different. True Lissa Matthews fans really loved them, others not so much. Such is the way with something new and different. I've read my fair share of shifter books and a few vampire books and a few demon books. My own spins on the demon and the were weren't dark or even devious really. There was no sinister plot to expose anyone or kill anyone. I applied my own quirkiness to my stories and a lot of sex.
But then the follow-up characters, the stars of the next books in the series' got quiet. They went underground and I didn't hear from them for a long, long time. I can't write their stories until they come out, until they're ready to tell me what they are up to, what they want me to know. I can try and ferret them out, but it's usually to no avail. They'll just become more stubborn and dig in their heels until I surrender and leave them be. I'm the writer, but they are the reasons I am the writer and if they aren't ready for me to write about them...
Now, if I come at this from a reader standpoint, if I put myself in the shoes of my readers or as a reader myself, I see a different type of frustration and disappointment. It's never that a writer, myself included, want to make readers wait, want to have to keep telling readers the story isn't ready yet, but unfortunately, it is what we end up doing a lot of times. I don't like being kept waiting for the next book in a series, or for the next season of my favorite shows or the next movie in the line up, the next album, or hell, even for dessert. I want it NOW. I want it ALL right NOW. Creativity takes time.
Sometimes the wait is well worth it, but sadly, sometimes it isn't... Now, for any readers I may have reading this blog post, the Demon Riko has started talking finally for his book, and the bear shifters, Patrick and Doug have started talking as well. These three books will be started soon...
Have you read the next book, heard the next album, seen the next movie, the next season of the show, the dessert menu and were thrilled with the result? Or have you and were disappointed? It happens to the best and the worst of us. So tell me, what are you waiting on from your favorite author, band/musician, or movie or television franchise?
Thank you to the girls here for having me and for their kind invitation and patience with me, I would like to offer up a giveaway to one commenter: A copy of my werebear book Arctic Shift or my demon/angel book The Demon is an Angel along with $10 in eBook bucks from All Romance eBooks. (Please be a follower of this blog before entering)
If you'd like to find out more about me and my writing, my addiction to coffee, what I enjoy reading, or anything at all, I can be found in a variety of places:
She believes in myths…can she believe in destiny?Denali Heat, Book 1
Unlike her adventurous sister, Ruby is perfectly content to let her mind be the wanderlust while her body stays safely in Chicago. Melanie wouldn’t be out of touch this long without a damned good reason, though. Which means it’s time for a giant step outside her comfort zone.
While Denali National Park is like another planet, the myths and legends that saturate this wild land are right up her alley. The wilderness guide waiting for her—naked in her bed—looks about as safe as a polar bear.
Carson’s people are kin to the great beast, right down to the white hair. Before Ruby ever set foot in Alaska, his inner bear knew that Melanie’s little sister was his mate. He’s doing his level best not to let his primal needs scare her, but everything about her sends his urge to possess her into overdrive.
To his surprise, revealing he’s a shifter only stimulates her innate curiosity. Warming her with the perfect fire of their lovemaking, easy. Convincing her that real love isn’t a myth—and making her want to stay in his home, his bed, his heart—now, that’s a problem…
Warning: cozy flannel PJs, a naked shifter, incredible food and some fireside sex hot enough to melt the polar ice caps…
When ex-government assassin Delan is kidnapped by Riko, a sex demon, he’s taken care of and sexually serviced in any manner he desires by Riko’s personal sex slaves. And while not one to bemoan his good fortune, Delan is a man of action and in need of a mission. He’s about to be given one by the name of Angel.Riko’s half-sister Angel is just that, an angel. Not just any kind of angel though, she’s a hybrid being—sex demon and sex angel. And she’s in need of being tamed. Barred by Riko from having sex with her fellow sex demons, she’s forced to suffer the inadequate fumbling of humans, both male and female.
When Delan and Angel meet, sparks fly. She’s defiant and he’s determined, but the lust and hunger hit them both between the eyes and below the belt. Sex is hard and hot, a little kinky and a whole lot naughty. But Delan needs to find something more than sex to rein her in, or she’ll destroy it all.
ABOUT LISSA....
Living in North Carolina, talented, multi-published author, Lissa Matthews, has many loves in her life: Family, friends, NASCAR, football, music of all kinds, cooking, BDSM, and last, but not least, coffee. She loves it so much she and those who know her are surprised she hasn’t floated away on a caffeine-induced cloud while giving life to feisty heroines and hunky heroes.
Lissa’s love of romance came from every book she has ever picked up. No matter what she read, she fell in love with the written word. The promise of escape, the deep, intriguing characters, and the winding journey from beginning to end, constantly drew her into bookstores and libraries as she was growing up.
Her first stories were written in junior high and she kept it up through college. She would stay up late at night when her kids were little reading romance and still penning her own stories. In 2007, when she and her family moved to North Carolina from Florida, she began pursuing writing as a profession and she couldn’t imagine doing anything else… Well, except maybe writing in her own cupcake bakery/coffee shop. But that dream is a ways down the road… Lucky for Lissa, she believes in dreams coming true.
Lissa is married with two children and seven, yes, seven cats. She blames her oldest child for the cats.

Mine to Hold- Shayla Black (book 6)
Tyler Murphy was an LAPD detective, single and happy—until a near-fatal tragedy crippled his friend, fellow detective Eric Catalano. While he supported Eric, he also became a shoulder for Eric’s wife, Delaney, to lean on. But with one naughty suggestion from Eric, a drunken night with Delaney spilled into erotic abandon. Before it was over Tyler saw his best friend’s wife as a woman and yearned for more. When Eric struggled to deal with the aftermath, Delaney begged Tyler to leave. Crushed, he fled to Louisiana, hoping to escape his longing for the one woman he could never have again…and unaware of what he’d left behind.
A lover’s desire.
After two years of living with regret, Tyler finds Delaney on his doorstep, her husband having abandoned her long ago. She’s protecting a shocking secret and desperately needs refuge from a killer determined to see her dead. As they fight to stay alive and catch the stalker, they struggle to resolve the guilt of their past pleasures. But they can’t deny that what was once a spark is now a flame burning out of control. To possess Delaney—body and soul—Tyler must heal her pain and thwart the evil that’s a mere breath behind her…
Love this series!! We met Tyler a few books back and I loved his character from day one. An ex-cop from L.A., he now works as a bouncer for Alyssa at her strip club. He takes full advantage of his position and screws around with all the strippers. A confirmed bachelor, Tyler has only really loved one woman. Even though he thought he was in love with Alyssa he was covering his feelings for someone else, Delaney. Delaney was Eric's wife, Eric is his ex best friend & partner. Two years prior while they all lived in L.A., Eric was shot on duty and ended up in a wheelchair. For months Delaney took care of his every need, with no one looking out for hers. Sitting around drinking one long Memorial Day weekend, Eric asked Tyler to "fuck" his wife while he watched. Yep, seriously! Tyler had been in love with her forever in his eyes so Eric barely had to talk him into it. Eric explained that Del could not orgasm through sex but Tyler set out to prove him wrong and gave her 5 mind-blowing orgasms while Eric watched. It didn't take long for Eric to sober up and realize his mistake, he threw Tyler out and while Del tried to make their marriage work once she found out she was pregnant with Tyler's child Eric threw her out for good. Now two years later, Del shows up on Tyler's door with his son who looks exactly like him. It was a great part of the book to read about Tyler going from "Cockzilla" as the strippers called him to a daddy in a matter of seconds. One look into his son's eyes and he was hooked. With Del on the run from a corrupt ADA in L.A. she needs Tyler's help, but she only wants him to take care of Seth while she goes back to L.A. to write her article. Once Tyler and the other men (Deke & Jack) hear what she is running from and who is trying to kill her they are in it until the end. Tyler saves her while trying to capture the heart of that one woman that got away and he is not going to let her get away from him again. He wants it all with her and Seth, the family, the marriage and more kids since he missed out on everything with her pregnancy he is ready for her to do it all again so he can be there for it all. I have loved this series from book one and it is really hard to pick a favorite but this one is way up at the top of the list right now. There were a few moments that I wanted to reach into my Kindle and slap Delaney around but she finally opened her eyes to see what she could have in her life if she just gave him a chance. But seriously, I would have a little trouble trusting a man other woman named "Cockzilla" too- lol

Wicked Lovers
Vampire Forgotten- Rachel Carrington (book 2)
Forgotten in the mountains of Romania. Forced to live a life he didn’t choose. Suffering the daily pain of loneliness. Spending an eternity without the touch of a woman’s hand.
Though damned as a vampire, Rhad Valentine has been given what some might call the gift of psychic sight. He sees it as a constant reminder of real life going on without him—a life he cannot live.
Mischa Bonovich is on a desperate mission to find her missing sister, Rianna. Led to the mountains of her homeland by the faint call of Rianna’s voice, Mischa needs Rhad’s gift and his strength.
Wild hunger, both foreign and welcome, drives Rhad to his knees. He’d never held a woman so soft. Kissed one so responsive. And in spite of his inner protests, he’ll do anything to help her. Anything to feel just one more touch of her hand.
In the dark forests of Romania, Rhad’s desire won’t be quenched until he tastes what only Mischa can offer, but first, he must save her from a man who has nothing to lose. A man who holds a deadly secret that could tear Mischa from Rhad’s arms before love can happen.
I enjoyed this book but I felt like I was missing something, so now I am going to go back and read the first book. I know they are all stand-alone books but for me I like to get the feel of a series or trilogy by starting at the beginning. Rhad is a vampire living in Romania and Mischa goes to Romania looking for her missing sister. Not knowing what she will find once she gets there, Mischa has researched Rhad because of her sister talking about him to her. Mischa knows he is a vampire and at first feels she is in danger due to this fact. With a little help from her grandfather and sister, who both happen to be ghosts now, she ends up half naked and unconscious on his doorstep. He is attracted to her from the very beginning but denies himself a taste of her blood. Once she comes to, he decides to help her find her sister by locating a shaman that he knows. Unbeknown to either of them, a human is after the same shaman and will do anything to get to him. Love blossoms in this fast paced story. If I had to decide between life with Rhad and going back to Boston... Boston, who? what? where?

Stay the Night- Lynn Viehl (book 7)
Outlaw, immortal vampire, and art thief, Darkyn Lord Robin of Locksley has evaded authorities for the last 700 years. At the moment, he’s falling for undercover federal agent Christina Renshaw, who has no time for an affair. She hopes to snag an elusive art thief, but soon has no choice other than to join forces with Robin. When the chase becomes dangerous, both will have to choose between losing each other and losing everything they value..
Like I have said before the author keeps most of characters throughout the book but focuses on the two main characters. Let me just tell you that Robin is a thief aka Robin Hood lol. Chris is a federal agent. They say opposites do attract. Robin and Chris meet in very beginning. Chris is trying to fine the Magician and Robin is wanting an old book. Chris is undercover to find the art thief called the magician who happens to be Robin. Chris and Robin find there self in trouble when another Darkyn captures Robin's men and Chris's partner. So they must work together to get the book or the Darkyn will kill their friends. Lets just say there are a lot of things that happen in this book. Total surprises that I did not see coming at all. Will Robin and Chris be able to get the book back? Also will they be able to love one another since she is a cop and he is a thief?

The King's Mistress - Sandy Blair
The king of Scotland is in a snit. Which means Britt MacKinnon, proud captain of the king’s guard, has an onerous task: fetch Alexander’s favorite paramour back to the royal bed—now. Never mind that the crown should be about the business of getting a legitimate heir. Especially since England’s Edward I would love nothing more than to seize an empty Scottish throne.
When the handsome soldier appears on her doorstep, Geneen Armstrong has to think quickly. Her twin lies abed in her cottage, pregnant with the king’s bastard. If the barren queen learns the truth, the foolish girl’s life won’t be worth a farthing.
She must somehow transform her graceless, plain-spoken self into her vivacious, talented sister. Then, after the court is convinced she carries no child, use her herbal knowledge to sour the king’s taste for her sister’s company—for good.
By the time Britt realizes this unusually articulate, ungodly stubborn woman is the wrong woman, tendrils of attraction have already tightened into a bond. A bond that will be tested when the king’s unexpected death puts Scotland’s very destiny at stake—and unleashes an ever-tangling web of court intrigues, secrets...and lies.
Though I generally read more modern time periods I found THE KING'S MISTRESS a wonderful book. Ms. Blair transports the reader back to a time in Scottish history full of intrigue, danger and love. She engulfs you in the history of Scotland and the intrigue of the courts all while endearing you to her characters.
Britt MacKinnon, King Alexander’s Captain of the Guard, is a strong, sexy and honorable Scotsman trying to keep his country from falling into the rule of England while trying to control the King himself from straying before producing an heir to the throne with the Queen. When he is ordered to fetch the king's favorite mistress, Lady Greer Armstrong, back to court, he begrudgingly complies. He knows that Greer will be a huge distraction to the King’s duties, beside that MacKinnon doesn’t like her.
Greer had left the court due to a family emergency and returned to her home where we meet Lady Geneen Armstrong, Greer’s twin sister, just as she is realizing that Greer is carrying the heir to the throne. When MacKinnon shows up to bring Greer back a plan is set in motion. Knowing Greer's life is in jeopardy should anyone, especially the Queen, ever find out about her baby, Gen believes the only way to make her safe is to pretend to be her twin, convince the court she is not pregnant and then go to Ireland to their Aunts, which is where Greer will go to have the babe and keep them both out of harm's way.
Britt doesn’t realize that he has the wrong sister right off and he is confused over his attraction to her when prior he couldn’t stand her. He knows that something isn’t right with her and things aren’t adding up. By the time they reach the castle he has figured out that Geneen is with him and not Greer. He also learns about Greer’s condition and why they made the switch, and he decided to help Geneen for the good of “Scotland” but also so he can be around Geneen and see to her safety.
Once Britt and Geneen learn to trust each other, the attraction truly begins, and the romance between them is filled with danger, but they hold steady as long as possible before the past surfaces and Geneen realizes not all is as seems. Can they save her sister and still have each other?
Now I liked that Britt faces his past, though I felt it wrapped up too fast and neatly, realizing he doesn’t and can’t leave Geneen. With Geneen, she learns that not is all as it seems, she grows and faces some startling truths about her sister and herself.
This story is wonderfully written and romantic. I loved the details, dialogue which leads you straight into 13th century Scotland. Her characters weave through the story never missing and keeping the reader right in the story and time frame. They are delightful characters who having you cheering and hoping for them. I also thought all the other characters were wonderfully engaging and added to the story.
If you love a historical romance or if you want to give one a try, I’d highly recommend this book to anyone.

Bared to You- Sylvia Day (book 1)
Gideon Cross came into my life like lightning in the darkness...
He was beautiful and brilliant, jagged and white-hot. I was drawn to him as I'd never been to anything or anyone in my life. I craved his touch like a drug, even knowing it would weaken me. I was flawed and damaged, and he opened those cracks in me so easily...
Gideon knew. He had demons of his own. And we would become the mirrors that reflected each other's most private wounds... and desires.
The bonds of his love transformed me, even as I prayed that the torment of our pasts didn't tear us apart...
I was a little hesitant to review this book, I requested it on Netgalley and was turned down by the publisher, but when I received it as a gift for my birthday I thought what the hell, I'll read it. Yes, I've heard the rumors & read the reviews that this book is so much like Fifty Shades of Grey, but let me tell you it's better. I read all three Fifty books and all I could think of was Oh My (lol if you read Fifty you get that) this book is nothing but characters from Twilight with a little Pretty Woman thrown into it. Back down ladies that's MY opinion only!! Oh I can see a few small similarities between these two stories but beyond that I think this book & the storyline is the better of the two. Don't get me wrong I had a couple problems with this book but when do I not have a few with a book or two- lol.
Gideon by description alone is what my dream guy looks like, how could I not fall in love with this fictional character? The man is a billionaire workaholic but still struggles with his personal life and past events that would take any man to his knees. I could feel the connection between Gideon & Eva while reading this book, ever had a book you could NOT put down, well this was one of them for me.
Eva is actually a strong woman who has her own demons from her past that she fights with daily to overcome. He's a strong self-assured man in his business life but once he meets her he knows he can't live without her and becomes a little (haha) possessive of her, while at the same time she becomes just as possessive with him but when things turn ugly she runs. Having suffered abuse she doesn't always know how to deal with situations that could possibly break her heart even more. They fall fast and hard for each other, with the sex pulling into the forefront of the relationship but that is not the strongest thing in their budding relationship- emotions run deep for both of them. He is a dominate and wants her to submit but she is not willing to submit to anyone willingly. They have a tug of war in the beginning and both end up giving in to each other but only a little at a time. When this man opens his heart just a little to give her some control is an awesome thing to read. His emotions are just so raw. Oh and before I forget, the sex is great but you can read little hints here and there about how much control he has to have during sex. The nightmares he has about his past are super emotional and a little difficult to read without letting your mind guess to who and what happened to him. In this book, Eva tells her story of past abuse but we don't read about Gideon's yet but it doesn't take much to guess what happened to him as a boy.
There are other characters in this book, Cary, Eva's bi-sexual roommate is just as gorgeous as Gideon & Eva (I guess everyone in the book is hot). Cary has serious demons of his own that he is constantly fighting but hopefully he will wake up soon and see what good he could have in his life if he just opens his heart. Eva's mother is a nut job, seriously!, she is way to over-protective for her 24 y/o daughter. Eva's dad is pretty normal though, but he doesn't know about Eva's past yet. Stanton, Eva's step dad allows her mother to stay nuts- haha, but he does love Eva like a daughter. There are a few more, Gideon's brother, Christopher, and a few woman but I will let you read about them on your own.

Crimson Groves- Ashley Robertson (book 1- YA)
This is a YA book and I must say it was pretty good. Abby the main character is well written and comes across as a very real character. It starts out with Abby being warned by her father, who she hasn't seen for years, that someone is after her. But Abby doesn't listen to him. Bronx comes into the bar where she works and she is instantly all about being near him. After Bronx walks Abby home, she sees that he is a vampire and he turns her against her wishes. Bronx has a persuasion gift that allows him to force anyone to do what he wants. He keeps Abby locked up for a month and tells her about vampire history. But Abby is filled with such hate for him, all she wants is to get away. Bronx takes her to a club and tries to force her to kiss him and love him. But one of the enforcers stops him and makes him cool off. Abby realizes that she has to get away before he comes back and hurts her. Tyler, a human, shows her visions that he has and he helps her get away. Then the story takes off from there. I can't give away everything lol, but the plot was great with unexpected twists showing how Abby is so special. Will Abby be able to keep away from Bronx? Why does Tyler have this special ability and what other secrets does he have?

four roughly 80-100-page novellas focusing on the remaining vampire kings and
their struggles to find love and happiness in the midst of warfare with the
Soul Eaters, evil immortals who exsanguinate their human victims and then steal
their souls by eating their hearts. In
the Service of the King follows Warrior King Kael MacQuillan on the night
of a ritual feeding ceremony called The Proffering, which is necessary to
maintain his immortality and humanity and give his warriors permission to feed.
He loathes having to do it.
3. Kael is a very bullheaded character, (wasn’t
happy when he sent Shayla away) what do you think would have happened if she
had left? Would Kael have kept his walls in place and not gone after her?
I think he would’ve tried to stay away from her. Being the
alpha male that he is, he’d already perfected a beat-yourself-up
suffer-in-silence kind of attitude. However, the blood magic that had already
started working between them would’ve weakened his resolve eventually… Fun
question!
4. Give us the goods about the just released
second read of the series, SEDUCED BY THE VAMPIRE KING.
Seduced by the Vampire
King offers a twist on an enemies-to-lovers story. Warrior King Nikolai
Vasilyev wants nothing more than vengeance after the deaths of his brothers.
Katherine Bordessa has fled 5,000 miles from her home to escape a life serving
vampires, only to stumble upon one on a dark street. Here’s the blurb:
American exchange student Kate Bordessa has fled to Russia
to escape her family's hopes that she'll become one of the Proffered, human women
who feed and mate with elite vampire warriors. But when she stumbles upon a
wounded vampire in the streets of Moscow, she's instinctively driven to protect
him--and feels an undeniable spark of desire.
Grieving over the deaths of his brothers, Vampire Warrior King Nikolai Vasilyevhas thrown himself into battling his enemies, focused only on vengeance. Until the attack that brought him to Kate. Their sexual attraction explodes into anight of uncontrolled passion--a night that marks them as mates. Is their connection strong enough to convince them to embrace a destiny neither of them was expecting?

5. The covers for these books are so YUMMY! Do
you have any input on them?
Thank you! I have input, but very little “say” in the end
result. Harlequin has a very detailed online form authors have to complete that
tells the cover artists everything they could possibly want to know about the
hero, heroine, setting, tone of the story, etc. But what the end result
actually is is a complete surprise
when I see it!
6. What is the playlist for SEDUCED BY THE VAMPIRE KING? We
have heard you don’t like to listen to music while you write, so how do you use
your playlists in your writing process?
This was one of the few books I didn’t have a Playlist for.
That was in part because, due to other deadlines, I had to write it so fast I
just didn’t have the time for it to percolate. I’d have to say, though, that
The Fray’s “Say When,” which really inspired me for the first book in this
series, does have the right feel for this story also. In general, I listen to
music a lot while driving or doing things around the house, and the “feel” of
the songs and the lyrics definitely get my brain moving on whatever I’m
currently writing. I find lyrics in particular very inspirational.
7. Your family believes in the supernatural, and
we are sure you have some very interesting stories. Could you tell us one, and
have you ever considered using one in your writing?
Sure! Let’s see…when I was 17 we lived in a very small town
in a townhouse right on Main Street. In the house next to us, two elderly
sisters lived, Miss Patty and Miss Betty. Miss Betty had been in the hospital
for about two weeks and it was serious. One weekend, I got money from my mother
to walk down to the McDonald’s to get lunch. I left out the back door to cut
through our back yard. When I got down to the sidewalk, I looked up and saw
Miss Betty walking up the sidewalk in her yard. I said hello to her and told
her I was glad she was home, and she smiled. I rushed to McDonald’s, excited to
get back and tell my mom, who was close to both sisters, that Miss Betty was
home. When I got back, I called for her and told her the news. She went sheet
white, and I realized she was upset. She told me what I saw was impossible, because
Miss Patty had just called to tell her Betty had died at the hospital that
morning.
True story! And I have considered writing a story using a
lot of the ghost stories in my family’s history. Just haven’t gotten to it yet!
8. What traits/characteristics do you like to
find in the characters you write about? Have you ever been unhappy with one of
your characters because he didn’t have some traits you wanted him to?
I like characters that make you feel something about them,
who engage your emotions. I’m not sure if there are specific traits I want them
all to have, necessarily, because every character is different and requires
different characteristics to be fully drawn and true to themselves and the
story. It’s my characters that usually come to me first, and they tell me what
the story is. By the time I sit down to write, I usually feel that I know the
characters pretty well, although they certainly have surprised me with things
they did or choices they made. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced being
disappointed in a character for that reason. They just are who they are, to me!
9. What projects are you working on now that you
would like to share with us?
In addition to Seduced
by the Vampire King, I’m in the middle of a tour for my new contemporary
romance, Her Forbidden Hero. And I’m
also gearing up for the July 10 release of West
of Want, book 2 in my Hearts of the Anemoi series based on Greek
mythology—this will be my first book to release to physical bookstores, and I’m
just thrilled. Up next to write include a follow-up story to Her Forbidden Hero, another vampire
warrior kings story (this one will be set in Tromso, Norway!), and a novella in
the Anemoi world. So, it’s never a dull moment!
10. Is there anything you would like to tell our followers
about yourself or your wonderful reads?

a chance and bringing my characters to life! I couldn’t do it without you! Oh,

Seduced by the Vampire King Excerpt:
He couldn’t let himself be seduced by an impossible idea. He
sprung to his feet and made for the door, still open from his earlier rushed
entry. “I have to go.”
“Why?” She followed after him, the alluring beat of her
heart and intoxicating femininity revealing her place within the room.
He couldn’t stop, couldn’t reply, couldn’t look at her. If he
did, there’d be no going back.
He grasped the edge of the door.
Small hands fisted in the back of his shirt. “Wait. Why are
you leaving? I mean, did I—”
He halted, heart slamming against his sternum, fangs
stretched out and aching. “Release me,” he rasped.
She heaved a shaky breath he felt against his arm.
“I…can’t.”
“Release. Me,” he said louder. Competing emotions warred
within him until he thought he might split apart.
“Nikolai—”
It was his name rolling off her tongue that did it.
He whirled and buried his hands in her hair. He pulled her
to him, causing them both to stumble, and he backed her into the ancient bars
of the door. It clicked shut, sealing them in and cutting off the last of his
restraint.
Tilting her head back, Nikolai devoured her mouth. His lips
sucked, his tongue explored, his fangs rubbed against her moist flesh. Oh, God,
she was so sweet and warm and wet. He stepped into her, forcing their bodies
together from chest to thighs. And, dammit, she was soft everywhere he was
hard.
Her hands curled around his neck and climbed into his hair,
fingers tangling and tugging. She pulled him in tighter and surrendered to the
kiss. She met him stroke for stroke, their tongues curling and twining
together.
And Nikolai no longer knew who was surrendering to whom.

Twilight Fall- Lynn Viehl (book 6)
Immortal Darkyn Lord Valentin Jaus and landscape artist Liling Harper are two lost souls. Brought together by fate, bound together by passion, Valentin and Liling find solace in each other’s arms. But the ties that bind them are deeper—and more dangerous—than either of them can possibly imagine…
Let me just say I liked Jaus when I first seen him in the other books. He is so giving and caring. Liling is the right woman for him. What I didn't know about Jaus is he likes his woman to be submissive but he will always care for the ones he loves. John who is Alex's brother wants to go after the Brethern. He finds out that why they were in an orphanage for about three months and he nor Alex can remember anything about it. But he remembers them having extra skills after being adopted. So John is determined to see how the Brethern are doing this to children. Jaus and Liling have their own problems too, there is a man after Liling who is determined to kill her. Liling has a special talent of her own. This book was good and I enjoyed it all the way through and love what happened at end lol. Will Jaus ever be able to get over Jema and let Liling into his life? Will this man after Liling kill her?
